SO WHY L'OSERAIE?
A complete "WOW" and Coup de Coeur moment of (mid-life crisis?) madness.
We fell in love with our "little piece of Paradise" as we turned into the driveway and saw a small and perfectly formed fairytale Chateau dappled pink in the evening sunlight, so well protected within its magnificent centurian wooded parkland.
Every day we think how lucky we are to be here, nursing our grand old lady back to full health. Bells ring, sun shines, birds sing, flowers (and weeds unfortunately) grow with abandon, the river flows by and people speak gently and respectfully to each other .."la douceur Angevine" -what's not to like?
L'Oseraie is a beautiful and unique Chateau in a genuinely private but never remote 23 hectare domain situated on the bank of the Sarthe and the edge of a small and friendly village.
We regard ourselves as merely the temporary guardians of the property. It has stood since 1875 and will hopefully outlast us. Our job now is preserving and nurturing a very small slice of history for others to enjoy long after we are gone.
After toiling for for years in advertising Chris took an early exit opportunity which allowing him to pursue his passion for wine . Having attained WSET Level 3 Award before we acquired L'Oseraie, after the challenges of the last few years there is now time to reengage his passion for wine. He enjoys putting his knowledge to good use researching, and of course tasting, wines to stock the cellar.
He has also had more time to become involved in the local community, and was invited to stand for (and was successfully elected to) the village Council in April 2014 ; he hopes to make a positive contribution to the village.
We needed a change from our previous busy executive lives in south west London and seized our opportunity.
Having found this lovely, welcoming place in 2011 we left the UK to make L'Oseraie our home and set about bringing this amazing Chateau back into full use with appropriate facilities for guest enjoyment, but always trying to respect and preserve its character which so attracted us in the first place.
Has always thrived on new challenges. The opportunities to find such new challenges at the Chateau and in the grounds are many and varied!
L'Oseraie offered an opportunity to be more creative , work on producing a flexible but sympathetic internal layout , source appropriate furnishings and decor, and little by little work towards reviving some of the former grandeur while maintaining the luminous welcoming atmosphere of the Chateau.
Having set our hearts on L'Oseraie as our home, and in hopeful anticipation of a successful acquisition, after years of enthusiastic dabbling in the kitchen Anne went back to college to obtain a certificate to ensure her kitchen dabbling skills was sufficiently improved to cater for our guests.
